Introduction
Those of us who watch TV at
home with our closed-captioned decoder turned on sometimes get the feeling
that captions are everywhere. Every
company captions their educational videos and other media now, don’t they?
Unfortunately, no. Companies surveyed by the National
Association of the Deaf have the general perception that it does not make
“market sense” to pay for captioning as the demand from buyers for captioned
media is very low.
Is captioned media really
needed? Who benefits from its
use? Where can you find captioned
media? What does it cost to have a
video or other media item captioned?
Can you learn to caption? Does
federal accessibility law require you to use captioned media ?

This presentation attempts
to answer these and other questions.
